Weekend Roundup: Box Office Results for 2/28-3/2

Welcome to another edition of WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 this weekend were The LEGO MovieSon of God, and Non-Stop.

This weeks newcomers stole the spotlight, taking the top two spots.  But even though it dropped two spots, The LEGO Movie was still able to hold onto the Top 3 this week.

And on a side note, the Academy Award nominated Frozen has officially broke the $1 billion mark.  It's only the 18th film to ever enter the coveted Billion Dollar Club, and is just over $60 million away from becoming the highest grossing animated film of all time.

Let's take a look at how the Top 3 did this weekend...

1. NON-STOP

Non-Stop led the way this week with an impressive $28.8 million, a step up from some of his recent films like Unknown ($21.9 million) and The Grey ($19.7 million).  This is the type of film that is definitely in Neeson's wheelhouse, and will more than likely be profitable for the studio.

2. SON OF GOD

Almost 10 years to the day after the release of Mel Gibson's infamous film, Passion Of The Christ, a new film about Jesus has arrived...Son of God.  It had a good opening weekend, bringing in $25.6 million on a modest $22 million budget.  This film will absolutely be profitable for the studio, and may be able to attract some viewers who were put off by Passion Of The Christ's subtitles.

3. THE LEGO MOVIE

In its fourth weekend, The LEGO Movie has slipped two slots to #3, bringing in $20.8 million.  This brings its domestic total up to $209.1 million and it's worldwide total to $330.2 million.  This amazing film is well on its way to being one the top grossing films of 2014 and a definite contender for Best Animated Film at next years Academy Awards.

Here's a quick rundown of this weekends results:

#1 - Non-Stop - $28,875,635

#2 - Son of God - $25,601,865

#3 - The LEGO Movie - $20,828,356
