Weekend Roundup: Box Office Results for 4/11-4/13

Welcome to another edition of WEEKEND ROUNDUP, where we discuss this weekends box office results.  The TOP 3 this weekend were Rio 2, Oculus, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

This week, Marvel's newest installment in Phase 2, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, dominated the box office yet again, but just barely.  It was a close race between it and the new animated feature, Rio 2.  The new horror film, Oculus, managed to bring in enough to take the third spot this week, beating out the new Kevin Costner film, Draft Day.

FROZEN UPDATE:  In its 21st week on the big screen, Frozen has brought in a worldwide total of $1.112 billion, making it the 8th highest-grossing film of all time, beating out Skyfall.

Let's take a look at how the Top 3 did this weekend...

1. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER

With a great second weekend, Marvel Studio's latest Phase 2 film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, has brought in another $41.3 million.  This puts its domestic total at $158.8 million and it's worldwide total at $476.6 million.  It has officially beat out the worldwide total for the first film, Captain America: The First Avenger, which only brought in $370.6 million total.

2. RIO 2

With a solid marketing campaign and a strong fanbase, Rio 2 managed to out do the original ($39.2 million on opening weekend) by bringing in $39.3 million this weekend.  Combined with a heavy foreign draw, this film was able to bring in an impressive $163.6 million on its first weekend out of the gate.

3. OCULUS

The newest horror film to hit theaters was Oculus.  Released by WWE Studios, Oculus was able to have a good start to its run, making $12 million domestically on a $5 million production budget.  And with such good ratings (it currently has a 72% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes), I have a feeling more people will head on out to see this film.

Here's a quick rundown of this weekends results:

#1 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier - $41,274,861

#2 - Rio 2 - $39,327,869

#3 - Oculus - $12,005,402
