The 12 Days of Die Hard

Merry Christmas, mother fuckers!

Die Hard is one of the best action films ever made. Due to it's striped down approach. Sure it has a few corny 80's moments and some big explosions. But, it's just as fresh today as it was 25 years ago. It's simple concept of a everyman versus a international terrorist group inspires me as a writer. The way John McClane out foxes his foes oddly enough inspires me as a human. I don't know how but, he does. Shut up!

The directing and cinematography exceed the bar set by other action films. The screenplay is has some cheesy dialogue here and there. But, it's a tight script with just enough twist and turns to keep it going. Which leads to the films exceptional pacing. Sure, McClane can come off as a jackass from time to time. But, as his wife stated "Only John can drive somebody that crazy."

What make's it Christmasy?

Well the whole thing takes place on Christmas Eve at a office Christmas party. There's Christmas music. Even the score plays on builds around the themes of some of classic Christmas carols. And speaking of Christmas carols that's what John McClane uses to taunt the scum bag terrorist. There's even this fun little taunt.

"Now I have a machine gun HO HO HO"

Plus, there's Alan Rickman who's also in Love Actually.

Paul's Final Score 8.5 out of 10
